To be a Registered Nurse was my life's goal from early childhood, and I directed my primary education toward that goal by focusing on the sciences and mathematics. I began nursing school right out of high school. After I got married, I dropped out of nursing school to work in clerical duties to help support my family. When my children were older, I returned to school, obtained an A.S. degree in Science and Math, and then finished Nursing School in 1993. I met my husband, Tim, in Nursing school, and after obtaining our RN licenses, we moved to Las Vegas to work because Southern California wasn't hiring new-grad nurses at that time due to a recession. I have worked at Sunrise Hospital and Mountain View Hospital. I have experience in Orthopedic, Cardiac, and Neuro-Science Nursing. My favorite specialty was Neuro-Science ICU, as I find the brain to be the most fascinating organ in the human body. I left the hospital setting in 2018 and became a Home Visiting Nurse, providing nursing care and education to homebound adults. In 2020, I was recruited to become a Nursing Assistant instructor, which is one of the most delightful and fun jobs I've ever had. To find fulfillment in nursing, one must not focus on the paycheck, although nursing does enable one to become financially independent with all the luxuries and self-esteem that brings, but one must have a heart for service to her fellow human being, one must see the dignity of the human person as we all travel this journey called life.
